The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the release of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External results, with an overall pass rate of 71.63 per cent. The Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim-Wushishi, made the announcement on Wednesday during a press briefing at the council’s headquarters in Minna.

According to him, the examination was held from November 26 to December 13, 2025, while the marking exercise took place between January 5 and January 21, 2026. He noted that the results were released 52 days after the final written paper.

Prof. Ibrahim-Wushishi disclosed that 96,979 candidates registered for the examination, comprising 51,823 males (53.43 per cent) and 45,156 females (46.56 per cent). Out of this number, 95,160 candidates actually sat for the examination, including 50,785 males (53.36 per cent) and 44,375 females (46.63 per cent).

He revealed that 93,425 candidates sat for English Language, with 73,167 candidates (78.32 per cent) obtaining credit and above. For Mathematics, 93,330 candidates participated, out of which 85,256 candidates (91.35 per cent) achieved credit and above.

The registrar stated that 68,166 candidates, representing 71.63 per cent, obtained five credits and above including English Language and Mathematics, while 82,082 candidates (86.26 per cent) achieved five credits and above irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.

He explained that the SSCE External examination offers a second chance to candidates seeking admission into universities and other tertiary institutions both within and outside Nigeria. He added that the examination covered 16 subjects, describing the release of the results as another milestone in NECO’s commitment to credible and reliable assessments.

On examination malpractice, Prof. Ibrahim-Wushishi disclosed that 9,016 candidates were booked for various offences during the examination, an increase from 6,160 candidates in 2024, representing a 31.7 per cent rise.

He further stated that five supervisors were recommended for blacklisting for aiding and abetting malpractice. Of these, two are from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), while one each is from Kano, Adamawa, and Ondo states.

Additionally, four examination centres were recommended for derecognition due to whole-centre malpractice. Two of the centres are located in Niger State, while one each is in Yobe and Kano states.

The registrar advised candidates to check their results on NECO’s official website, www.neco.gov.ng, using their examination registration numbers.

Candidates are hereby advised to check their result by following the below steps;

  • Go to NECO result checking portal at https://results.neco.gov.ng/
  • Pick your exam year. i.e., 2025
  • Pick your exam type. i.e., SSCE EXTERNAL (NOV/DEC)
  • Enter your Token Number and registration number in the appropriate columns.
  • Finally, click on the check result button to access your NECO result.
