The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), with the council reporting a significant decline in examination malpractice compared with the previous year.

The Registrar of NECO, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, announced the results on Thursday during a press briefing.
According to the council, 1,378,048 candidates registered for the 2026 examination, while 1,371,992 candidates eventually sat for the examination.

Wushishi disclosed that 804,948 candidates, representing 58.67 percent, obtained at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
He added that 1,126,118 candidates, representing 84.70 percent, obtained five credits and above regardless of their performance in English Language and Mathematics.
Examination Malpractice Drops by 64.74 Percent
The council also reported a significant reduction in examination malpractice.
According to the registrar, 1,496 candidates were involved in examination malpractice in 2026, compared with 3,878 candidates recorded in 2025.
This represents a 64.74 percent decrease in the number of candidates involved in examination malpractice.
During the question-and-answer session, Wushishi attributed the decline partly to the adoption of computer-based examinations, which he said had helped reduce malpractice in NECO examinations.
NECO Denies Involvement in ‘Miracle Centres’
Wushishi also dismissed claims that NECO operates or endorses so-called “miracle centres.”
He explained that NECO only registers examination centres that meet its established criteria and does not operate such centres.
“We register centres and have criteria for which we register these centres. We don’t know miracle centres because we have only one school and we cannot be associated with miracle centres,” Wushishi said.
He added that centres described as miracle centres are either established by state governments or privately owned, stressing that NECO does not support the practice.

Candidates can check their results online by following these steps:
- Visit the NECO result-checking portal: https://results.neco.gov.ng/
- Select the examination year: 2026.
- Select the examination type: SSCE INTERNAL (JUN/JUL).
- Enter your Token Number and Registration Number in the appropriate fields.
- Click “Check Result” to view your result.
