Northwest University Debunks Viral Claims on Emir Sanusi Academic Record

The management of Northwest University Kano (NWUK) has dismissed a viral video and social media reports alleging that the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, had an academic deficiency and approached the university to resolve the matter.
In a disclaimer dated 10 August 2026, the university clarified that the video in question showed the Emir attending a public lecture organised by the International Humanitarian Law Society at the institution.
However, the university said some individuals subsequently attached misleading captions and write-ups to the video before circulating them on social media.
According to the institution, claims that the Emir had a carry-over or approached the university to clear an alleged academic deficiency are false, baseless and misleading.
The university management said it completely dissociates itself from the video, the accompanying write-ups and the allegations contained in them.
It urged members of the public and the university community to disregard the video and the claims being circulated, stressing that they do not represent the position of Northwest University Kano.
Management also warned that individuals responsible for creating or circulating what it described as false and defamatory content could be reported to the relevant authorities and prosecuted in accordance with applicable laws.
The university therefore advised the public to rely solely on its official communications for accurate and verified information about the institution and its activities.
