The attention of the Hall Executive Council (HEC) has been drawn to the use of electric cookers and hot plates by some students residing in the University hostels.

In line with the recent directive issued by the Students’ Affairs Division, all students are hereby reminded that the use of electric cookers and hot plates in the hostels is strictly prohibited. Students are therefore advised to stop using or keeping such appliances in their hostel rooms.

The Student Handbook, Chapter 9  Regulations Governing Hostel Accommodation, outlines sanctions for hostel-related offenses, including:

  • Unauthorized electrical appliances: Any appliance that causes damage to electrical facilities may result in the student being required to repair or replace the damaged facility, or face rustication for two semesters.
  • Electric hot plates: Their use will result in seizure of the appliance and rustication for one semester.

Students are strongly advised to comply with the directive and avoid actions that could result in disciplinary sanctions or pose electrical safety risks to themselves and other residents.

Hall Executives have also been directed to monitor compliance within their respective hostels. Any student found using the prohibited appliances will be reported to the appropriate University authorities for necessary action in accordance with the regulations.
