MAUTECH Cancels Planned Student Protest

The Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH) has cancelled a planned student protest scheduled for Monday, 7 September 2026, over the persistent loss of students in vehicular accidents along the Yola–Girei Road.

In a statement, the University Administration said it was aware, albeit informally, of the intention of some students to stage the protest in response to the recurring accidents and the loss of lives.

The University acknowledged that the right to peaceful assembly and protest is guaranteed by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It also expressed its sympathy over the deaths of students in the accidents, while commiserating with their families and loved ones.

However, the Administration said it had received credible information that the protest could be hijacked by miscreants, potentially leading to instability and disrupting the University’s academic calendar.

According to the statement, the University has already contacted relevant government agencies, while discussions and other measures are being explored to find a lasting solution to the recurring accidents along the road.

Consequently, the University Administration directed that the planned protest be cancelled and advised all students to focus on preparing for their forthcoming examinations.

The Administration warned that any student who defies the directive would face disciplinary action in accordance with the University’s regulations.
