The Lekki Headmaster What It Is?

“The Lekki Headmaster” is the title of a book/novel selected by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) as the approved reading text for the Use of English section of the 2026 UTME.

The novel was written by Kabir Alabi Garba, a Nigerian author and journalist.

The story follows Mr. Adebepo Adewale (often called “Bepo”), a headmaster/principal at Stardom Schools in Lekki, Lagos.
Bepo is portrayed as a dedicated, principled educator who loves his work and students but faces significant personal and professional challenges.

A central conflict in the novel is his internal struggle between staying in Nigeria to improve education and the pressure to relocate abroad (a theme often referred to as “Japa”).

The nickname “Lekki Headmaster” comes from his reputation and character as a respected school leader in the Lekki area.

Why It Matters for JAMB
JAMB officially announced that this novel is the reading text for the Use of English in the 2026 UTME, meaning questions in that exam will be based on this book.
