JAMB Warns Nigerian Universities Against Issuing Invalid Admission Letters, Cautions Graduates on NYSC Mobilisation
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cautioned Nigerian universities against issuing unofficial admission letters, warning that such documents may not be accepted for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilisation and other official purposes.
The board stressed that candidates must ensure their admissions are properly processed through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) to avoid complications when verifying their admission status or preparing for the national service scheme.

JAMB Warns Nigerian Universities Against Issuing Invalid Admission Letters, Cautions Graduates on NYSC Mobilisation
JAMB Registrar, Professor Segun Aina, reportedly gave the warning on Thursday, 15 October 2026, during a meeting with a delegation from Veritas University, Abuja. He reiterated that the board is legally responsible for issuing official admission letters to candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
JAMB Raises Concerns Over Unofficial University Admission Letters
Aina expressed concern over the practice of some tertiary institutions issuing admission letters without confirming that the candidates’ admissions had followed the approved procedures.
He described the practice as unacceptable and called on universities to stop using institution-issued documents as substitutes for official JAMB admission letters.
According to the registrar, the Federal Ministry of Education has directed tertiary institutions to process admissions through CAPS. He explained that admissions conducted outside the approved framework could be considered invalid, highlighting the need for institutions and prospective students to comply with the established admission guidelines.
How Students Can Confirm Their JAMB Admission Status
Under the approved admission process, candidates are expected to accept their admission offers through CAPS before obtaining their official admission letters through JAMB’s e-Facility portal.
The procedure ensures that admission records are properly documented and can be verified by the relevant authorities when required.
Students are therefore advised to check their JAMB admission status regularly, confirm that their admission details are accurate and download their official admission letters from the appropriate platform.
JAMB Warning: What Graduates Need to Know About NYSC Mobilisation
The warning is particularly relevant to graduates preparing for the National Youth Service Corps programme, as discrepancies in admission records could affect their eligibility for mobilisation.
JAMB’s matriculation guidelines require candidates to print their admission letters and result slips online and confirm that their details appear on the National Matriculation List.
Candidates whose names are not included on the list may encounter difficulties during NYSC mobilisation and could be deemed ineligible to participate in the scheme.
For this reason, prospective corps members are encouraged to verify their admission records well before beginning the mobilisation process.
Steps to Avoid NYSC Mobilisation Problems
To minimise the risk of admission-related complications, students and graduates should take the following steps:
- Check admission status: Visit the JAMB CAPS portal https://efacility.jamb.gov.ng/Login to confirm that the admission offer has been properly recorded.
- Accept admission through CAPS: Ensure that the admission has been formally accepted on the approved platform.
- Print the official admission letter: Obtain the document through JAMB’s e-Facility portal.
- Verify the National Matriculation List: Confirm that the candidate’s details are available on the list.
- Resolve discrepancies early: Contact JAMB or the relevant institution if there are inconsistencies in admission records.
JAMB’s warning serves as a reminder that obtaining an admission letter directly from a university may not, by itself, establish that the admission has been officially recognised by the board.
Candidates are advised to follow the approved admission procedures and ensure that their records are properly verified to reduce the risk of delays or difficulties during NYSC mobilisation and other official processes.
