When Do NECO Exams Begin?
Monday, 16 June 2025. That’s the start. And by Friday, 25 July, it’s over.
The first papers? Mostly practicals – Auto Mechanics, Physical Education, Garment Making. The kind that need you to show, not just tell.
The last? Agricultural Science

What You Must Know About NECO Special Rules
Think you just show up with a pen and your timetable? Not quite. NECO has its peculiar way of doing things. Ignore these, and even with full marks, you could walk away with nothing.
1. Photocard is mandatory
No photocard? No entry. Your name is not enough. Your face must match.
2. Timetable vs. question paper? Question paper wins
If there’s a clash between the printed timetable and the time on your question paper, obey the question paper.
3. Group practicals aren’t on the public schedule
Subjects like:
- Data Processing
- Computer Studies
- Visual Arts
- Welding and Fabrication
…will be timed and announced by NECO offices. Don’t assume. Ask your school.
4. Special needs candidates get extra time
Albino? Blind? NECO grants 30 extra minutes. Blind students will write on special braille sheets.
5. Some exams are ‘share early’ only
Subjects like:
- Dyeing and Bleaching
- Photography
- Printing Craft Practice
- Leather Work
…require early paper distribution—two weeks ahead. For Welding and Fabrication? Three weeks.
6. Oral French and Arabic are not fixed on the timetable
Your school will tell you when. Probably a last-minute whisper.
Forbidden Items in the Exam Hall
Yes, calculators are allowed. But not the fancy ones. These are banned:
- Mobile phones
- Smartwatches
- Tablets and iPads
- Programmable calculators
- Any device that does more than it should
Bring them in, and you could be thrown out before the first bell.
Skipping the Practical? You Lose the Whole Subject
This one’s brutal. If your subject has a Paper I (Practical) and you don’t show up, you won’t get a result—even if you ace the theory. It’s a hard rule, not up for debate.
Tips to Actually Survive the 2025 NECO Exam Season
You can know the dates and still flop. You can follow every rule and still blank out at the question. That’s why these small things matter:
- Start revision early. Don’t let the calendar scare you into a cram frenzy.
- Past questions help. Not because they repeat word-for-word, but because formats matter.
- Study groups work. Especially for practical-heavy subjects.
- Sleep before the exam. Nothing fancy. Just seven solid hours.
- Eat properly. Bread and Lipton won’t carry you through 3 hours of Further Maths.
ALSO
Don’t just print the timetable and hang it on your wall. Read it. Know it. Follow it. There’s no mercy for someone who misses the English Language paper because they thought it was on Wednesday when it was really Tuesday.
And if you’re confused about anything—time, venue, paper code—ask your school principal. NECO doesn’t do sympathy grades.
