JAMB Dismisses Staff Member Over Candidate Extortion, Warns Others

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has dismissed a staff member for allegedly exploiting and extorting unsuspecting candidates, warning employees against any conduct that could compromise the integrity of the organization.

JAMB announced the disciplinary action in its official bulletin on Monday, September 21, 2026, as part of what it described as renewed efforts to tackle corruption and misconduct within the Board.

Although JAMB did not reveal the identity of the affected employee, it said the staff member was found guilty of taking advantage of candidates and was subsequently dismissed from service.

The Board stressed that its anti-corruption campaign extends beyond individuals operating outside the organization. It said internal misconduct would also attract firm disciplinary measures, regardless of an employee’s rank or position.

JAMB urged members of staff to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and avoid actions that could undermine public confidence in the Board or exploit candidates and other members of the public.

It warned that employees found engaging in such practices would face appropriate sanctions under the organization’s established disciplinary procedures.

The Board reaffirmed its commitment to building a transparent, accountable and professional workforce, noting that efforts to safeguard the credibility of its examination and admission processes must begin within the organization itself.

The warning comes as JAMB continues to strengthen measures aimed at protecting candidates from fraudulent practices throughout the examination and admission process.

The Board has also continued to provide candidates with updates and guidance on the 2026 admission exercise, including information on admission statuses displayed through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) and other requirements candidates must fulfil to complete their admission.
