Victoria Makanjuola, a first-class engineering graduate and process engineer at Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals in Lekki, Lagos, has received recognition for her contribution to a major maintenance project at the refinery.

Makanjuola was honoured for her role in the successful turnaround maintenance of the Residue Fluid Catalytic Cracking (RFCC) unit, one of the technically demanding areas of refinery operations.

She shared the achievement on LinkedIn in September 2026, around the same period Dangote Refinery commenced its initial public offering (IPO), giving members of the public an opportunity to acquire ownership stakes in the facility.

While the IPO attracted attention from prospective investors, Makanjuola used the moment to highlight the work taking place behind the scenes. Describing her role as a process engineer, she wrote:

“I am a Process Engineer, making things work, so you can have a refinery to own.”

According to Makanjuola, the maintenance project provided valuable hands-on experience in large-scale refinery operations and allowed her to gain practical knowledge beyond what she could have learned in the classroom.

She also expressed appreciation to her colleagues and mentors, including Shafa’atu Sanda Salisu, Sepribo Nelson Bobmanuel and Rebecca Adeyoju, as well as members of the wider RFCC team.

Makanjuola said the support she received from her colleagues and mentors helped her settle into her role and contributed significantly to her professional development.

For the young engineer, the experience and relationships gained during the project were more meaningful than the award itself.

“More than the award, I value the experience and the people I have had the opportunity to learn from and work with,” she said.

She concluded her post by reaffirming her commitment to her work as the refinery enters a new phase following the IPO.

“While you can own a piece of the refinery, I’ll keep working to make it work.”
