2026 WAEC GCE (2nd Series) registration is now open
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has commenced registration for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates (Second Series)
The registration fee is ₦27,000, while the deadline for generating a registration PIN is Friday, 14 August 2026. Candidates must complete their biometric capture and online registration by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, 16 August 2026.
Registration
Registration is strictly online. After obtaining a registration PIN, candidates should complete their registration at www.waeconline.org.ng. Biometric data is compulsory and will be used for identity verification at examination centres.
Registration Period
- PIN generation closes: Friday, 14 August 2026
- Biometric capture and online registration close: 11:59 p.m., Sunday, 16 August 2026
Registration Fee
Candidates are required to pay ₦27,000 at designated banks or accredited agents to obtain a registration PIN. An additional ₦500 commission is payable to the bank or agent.
Cashless payment options are also available through approved platforms, including Paga, PalmPay, Interswitch, Etranzact, UBA, Fidelity Bank, SystemSpecs, CoralPay, Xpress Payment, IQ Pay, Kudi and other accredited payment providers.
Walk-in Registration
Candidates who miss the registration deadline may register as walk-in candidates, provided they complete registration at least 24 hours before the paper they intend to sit. The walk-in registration fee is ₦45,000.
Candidates with Special Needs
Candidates with special needs must register online like every other candidate but should clearly indicate their disability or impairment, such as visual impairment, low vision, hearing impairment, speech impairment or other relevant conditions.
Where to Register
Registration can be completed at accredited banks, cyber cafés, WAEC offices and designated WAEC registration centres nationwide.
Completion of Registration
Candidates must complete registration within two weeks of first accessing the registration portal. They should carefully confirm that their names, gender, date of birth, passport photograph and selected subjects are correct before submission.
Successful candidates must print their Admission Notice, which will serve as proof of registration and identification during the examination. The Result Checker PIN will also be printed on the Admission Notice. WAEC accepts only the U.are.U DigitalPersona fingerprint scanner for biometric registration.
General Information
- The examination will be computer-based (CBT). Objective papers will be fully CBT, while essay and practical papers will be conducted in a hybrid format, with questions displayed on a computer screen and answers written in answer booklets.
- WAEC will conduct an online mock examination for interested candidates. Details will be communicated via SMS, email and WAEC’s social media platforms.
- Registration fees are non-refundable.
- Candidates should regularly check the WAEC website for the examination timetable.
- Passport photographs must meet WAEC’s specified requirements. Poor-quality or defaced photographs may invalidate a candidate’s registration.
- Candidates should download and study the examination regulations and syllabuses from the WAEC website using their registration PIN.
- Candidates must attend the examination in plain clothes. Professional uniforms are not permitted.
- Candidates found sitting the examination at more than one centre will have all their results cancelled.
- Mobile phones, smart devices and other electronic gadgets are strictly prohibited in the examination hall. Anyone found with them will have their entire results cancelled.
- Candidates must ensure that all registration details are accurate before submission, as WAEC will not accept requests for corrections after registration.
- Candidates must present the original Admission Notice at the examination venue.
- Examination malpractice will result in cancellation of results and may lead to prosecution.
- Candidates should provide valid email addresses and telephone numbers during registration.
