The Senate of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has approved a revised academic calendar for the completion of the 2025/2026 academic session following the suspension of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike.

The decision was made at the University’s 124th Statutory Senate Meeting held on July 31, 2026, and chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francisca Bassey.

Under the revised calendar, undergraduate lectures, which resumed on July 22, will continue until early September before revision and examinations begin. Final-year students are expected to complete their examinations in September, while examinations for other students will continue into October. The 2026/2027 academic session will begin on October 15, 2026.

Senate also approved a revised postgraduate calendar. Postgraduate students will resume on August 10, lectures will begin on August 12, examinations will end on November 27, and the 2026/2027 postgraduate session will commence on November 30, 2026.

The Vice-Chancellor informed Senate that 120 staff members have been approved to attend academic conferences as part of the University’s staff development program. Of these, 44 have already attended an international conference in Cape Verde, while 76 have been approved to participate in another conference later this year.

Senate also received updates on major infrastructure projects, including the first phase of approval for the fencing of the University, the remodeling of the Medical Centre, and the renovation of the main entrance gate, which will be sponsored by Zenith Bank.

In addition, Senate approved Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with partner institutions in Cyprus and Zhejiang College, China, to promote staff and student exchanges, joint research, and international collaboration.

The meeting also approved a policy requiring Continuous Assessment (CA) scores to be uploaded before semester examinations to improve examination administration and ensure the timely release of students’ results.

Senate formally recognized newly appointed Heads of Departments and elected Prof. Emmanuel Obi as the substantive Dean of the Postgraduate School.

The University said the decisions reflect its commitment to advancing academic excellence through improved planning, staff development, infrastructure renewal, international partnerships, and effective governance.
