The Management of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) has responded to reports circulating on various media platforms excluding the University’s official channelsclaiming that the Federal Government has approved and completed the transfer of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Keffi, to serve as the University’s Teaching Hospital.

While Management appreciates the public interest surrounding efforts to strengthen the University’s College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, it said it is necessary to clarify the situation for students, staff, stakeholders, and the general public.

According to the University, although discussions with the Federal Government and other relevant authorities have been positive and encouraging, the administrative procedures and modalities for the transfer of the facility are still being finalized. As a result, reports claiming that the process has been completed or that the facility has officially been handed over to the University are inaccurate and premature.

The University explained that the conversion or redesignation of a Federal Medical Centre into a University Teaching Hospital is subject to established statutory, administrative, and intergovernmental procedures, all of which must be completed before any official announcement can be made.

Under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, NSUK said it remains committed to developing a world class College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences capable of producing highly skilled healthcare professionals.

Management added that it is working closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure that the necessary clinical training facilities and institutional frameworks are in place to support quality medical education, research, and healthcare delivery.

The University therefore urged students, prospective applicants, stakeholders, and the general public to disregard unverified reports and rely only on official communications from Nasarawa State University, Keffi, for accurate information regarding the proposed Teaching Hospital and other institutional developments.

NSUK assured stakeholders that an official statement will be issued once all required administrative and regulatory processes have been successfully completed.

Acting Information and Protocol Officer
