Law School Student Dies at Lagos Hostel in Suspected Suicide
A 23-year-old student of the Nigerian Law School has died in a suspected suicide incident at the institution’s hostel in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Friday, 7 August 2026. The deceased, identified as Alayande Faith Ajoke, was reportedly found unresponsive within the hostel premises.
According to reports, the school’s Chief Matron, Mrs Igbokwe Juliana, was alerted to the incident and subsequently reported the matter at the Victoria Island Police Division at about 6:30 a.m.
Sources said the student’s roommate, Ojo Abisoye Tinuola, who had recently completed her internship, alerted the matron to the incident at approximately 4:30 a.m. The matron reportedly proceeded to the location, where she found the student, before the police were contacted.
Preliminary findings by the police reportedly indicated that the student may have fallen from the rooftop of the four-storey hostel building.
Investigators also reportedly recovered two notes believed to have been addressed to the deceased’s stepfather and roommate.
Police detectives visited the scene, documented their findings and carried out preliminary investigations into the incident.
The deceased’s remains were subsequently taken to the Mainland General Hospital Mortuary in Yaba for preservation and further examination.
Authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
