UNIZIK Announces Official Lecture Hours for Students, Warns Against Unauthorised Classes
The Senate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has set 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., from Monday to Friday, as the institution’s approved period for lectures.
The resolution was adopted during the 245th Senate meeting, held at the Zephaniah Madubuko Auditorium, after the Senate considered the report presented by its Ad-Hoc Committee on Lecture Monitoring.
With the new directive, any lecture scheduled outside the approved timeframe will be deemed unauthorised. Lecturers who organise classes during such periods will be held accountable and will assume full responsibility for any incident resulting from the unauthorised lecture.
The Senate, however, made an exception for lectures and practical sessions that genuinely need to continue beyond 4:00 p.m. Such sessions must first obtain written approval from the relevant Head of Department and Dean of Faculty.
According to an internal memorandum circulated to members of the University community by the Registrar, Dr Chinenye Gloria Okeke, lecturers who need to hold classes outside the approved hours are required to conduct them online using platforms such as Google Meet, Zoom or Microsoft Teams.
The University further directed that every virtual lecture must be recorded and uploaded to the University Learning Management System (LMS) to facilitate monitoring.
Deans, Heads of Departments, Directors and Course Coordinators have been instructed to ensure that the Senate’s directive is fully implemented across the University.
