The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has released the programme of activities and guidelines for its 41st Convocation Ceremonies, scheduled to take place from Friday, 16 October to Sunday, 25 October 2026 at the University’s Main Campus in Ilorin.

The announcement was contained in an official information circular signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, M.A. Alfanla.

The 41st Convocation will feature the conferment of First and Higher Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates, alongside the presentation of prizes to deserving graduands.

Programme of Events

The ceremonies will begin on Friday, 16 October, with a Special Juma’at Service at the UNILORIN Central Mosque at 1:30 p.m.

An Interdenominational Service will follow on Sunday, 18 October, at the Chapel of the Light at 9:00 a.m.

On Monday, 19 October, the Vice-Chancellor’s Press Briefing and Media Chat will take place at the University Auditorium at 10:00 a.m., followed by a logistics rehearsal involving principal officers and other stakeholders at 3:00 p.m.

The university’s convocation play, The Death of the King’s Horseman, written by Abdulmalik A. Amali, will be staged at the Performing and Film Arts Theatre on Tuesday, 20 October. The play will have two sessions, from 4:00–6:00 p.m. and 6:00–8:00 p.m.

Convocation Days

Wednesday, 21 October – Convocation Day I

Graduands from the Faculties of Education, Agriculture (Home Economics), Clinical Sciences (Nursing), Communication and Information Sciences, Environmental Sciences (Architecture), Social Sciences and the Institute of Education will participate.

Thursday, 22 October – Convocation Day II

The day’s activities will feature graduands from the Faculties of Arts, Basic Medical Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Life Sciences, Management Sciences and Physical Sciences.

Friday, 23 October – Convocation Day III

The convocation lecture, titled “From Lecture Hall to Cabinet Room: The Journey from Academia to Public Leadership,” will be delivered by Hon. Dr Haja Ramatulai Wurie, Honourable Minister, Ministry of Technical and Higher Education of Sierra Leone.

The lecture is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. at the University Auditorium.

Other activities on 23 October include the presentation of degrees to graduands from various faculties, a cocktail for the convocation lecturer, a Special Juma’at Service, commissioning of projects by the Visitor, and the Convocation Luncheon and Staff Merit Awards.

The convocation programme will conclude on Sunday, 25 October, with a Thanksgiving Service at St Thomas Aquinas Chaplaincy at 9:00 a.m.

Convocation Charges for Graduands

The university stated that the listed payments are mandatory for graduands, whether or not they attend the ceremonies, except where otherwise stated.

Undergraduate graduands are required to pay ₦20,000 for a student’s copy of transcript and certificate. Master’s and other postgraduate graduands are also required to pay ₦20,000 for these items.

For PhD graduands, the certificate fee is ₦10,000, while Diploma graduands are required to pay ₦20,000 for their certificate and student’s copy of transcript.

Other charges include academic gown hire, Order of Proceedings, muffler, lapel pin, certificate holder, student ID card (NYSC) and service charge, depending on the graduand’s category.

The university noted that items marked with an asterisk will be coordinated by Unilorin Holdings Limited.

Academic Gown Collection and Return

The Order of Proceedings and academic gowns will be available for collection from Monday, 19 October 2026, at the respective faculties and the Postgraduate School.

Graduands must present evidence of payment before collecting the items.

Those attending the convocation are required to participate in the Academic Procession and wear the approved academic attire.

All hired gowns must be returned to the respective Faculty Officers on or before Monday, 26 October 2026. Gowns returned after the deadline will attract a ₦5,000 daily fine.

Payment and Other Requirements

Graduands are required to make payments through the UNILORIN Convocation Portal using MasterCard or Visa ATM cards, with sufficient funds to cover the applicable charges and prevailing bank charges.

The university stated that purchasing the university’s academic gown is mandatory for PhD graduands. They are expected to contact the Technical Entrepreneurship Centre (TEC), University of Ilorin, to purchase the gown.

All graduands are also required to download and complete the University of Ilorin Alumni Association Google Form available through the university website and retain evidence of submission.

Graduands are advised to visit the official university website to check the list of graduands and confirm their graduation status.
