AKSU Bans Sign-Out Activities, Rowdy Celebrations After Examinations

The Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), through its Directorate of Students’ Affairs, has banned sign-out activities and other rowdy engagements by students following the completion of their examinations.

The directive was contained in a notice dated September 18, 2026, and addressed to the entire student body by the Students’ Affairs Division.

According to the notice, activities such as playing loud music, lighting bonfires, organizing car convoys, vandalism, cult parades, rough or stunt driving, and other unwholesome activities within the campus are strictly prohibited with immediate effect.

The university said the ban was introduced to safeguard the lives and property of students and members of the university community, prevent breaches of peace and injuries, and maintain the dignity and decorum expected of university graduates.

However, the institution stated that modest celebrations, including group photographs and sign-on endorsements, may be permitted, provided they are conducted responsibly and without disrupting the peace and safety of the campus.

Students, departments, associations, or groups found organizing or participating in the prohibited activities will face serious disciplinary action, the university warned.

The notice further stated that campus security personnel and other relevant security agencies had been directed to enforce the directive and arrest defaulters where necessary.

Heads of departments were also advised to properly guide and sensitise students on the directive.

The notice was signed by Dr. Stephen Umoh, Deputy Dean, Students’ Affairs, Akwa Ibom State University, on behalf of the Dean, Students’ Affairs.
