FUPRE Warns Against Admission Extortion, Assures Candidates of Admission Opportunities

The Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), Delta State, has warned parents, guardians and prospective students against individuals demanding money under the false claim that such payments are required to secure admission into the university.

In an official bulletin dated Thursday, 13 August 2026, the university said it had received credible reports of attempts by unscrupulous individuals to exploit the ongoing 2026/2027 admission exercise.

FUPRE stressed that no staff member, agent, intermediary or any other person is authorised to solicit or receive money, manipulate, circumvent or improperly influence the university’s approved admission process.

The university also clarified that the recently released cut-off marks represent the merit cut-off for the current phase of the 2026/2027 admission exercise and should not be regarded as the final basis for admission throughout the exercise.

According to the institution, admission will continue through subsequent phases, subject to approved admission criteria, relevant regulatory guidelines and available spaces.

FUPRE further reassured prospective students who chose the university, scored 160 and above in the UTME, participated in the Post-UTME exercise and met the relevant requirements that they still have a strong prospect of securing admission, depending on available spaces and the approved admission criteria. The university’s official admission information also confirms the 160 UTME threshold for the 2026/2027 screening exercise.

Parents, guardians and candidates were advised to rely solely on official university information and approved admission channels. FUPRE said it remains committed to ensuring that the 2026/2027 admission exercise is conducted transparently, fairly and in accordance with approved criteria and due process.
