MAAUN says ex-visiting lecturer no longer employed amid harassment allegations
The management of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has clarified that Dr Nasa’i Gwadabe is no longer affiliated with the institution following reports linking him to allegations of sexual harassment.

MAAUN: Ex-Visiting Lecturer No Longer Employed
In a statement issued by the Registrar, Habibu Awaisu, the university said Dr Gwadabe’s one-year appointment as a visiting lecturer expired in May 2026 and was not renewed. It stressed that reports describing him as a current lecturer are inaccurate.
MAAUN explained that visiting lecturers are engaged on one-year contracts, with renewals based on performance, institutional needs and management approval.
The university reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy on sexual harassment, abuse and exploitation, and disclosed that its founder has introduced a ₦5 million reward for any female student who reports and provides credible evidence of sexual harassment or sexual assault through the institution’s approved reporting channels.
It also dismissed social media claims that a student was delayed for two years because of the matter or that a postgraduate student was among the alleged victims, describing both as false. The university noted that it only recently graduated its first set of students and has yet to commence postgraduate programmes.
MAAUN urged the public and media to report the matter accurately and avoid referring to Dr Gwadabe as a current staff member, maintaining that his appointment ended in May 2026. The university added that attempts to obtain Dr Gwadabe’s response to the allegations were unsuccessful at the time of the statement.
