MAPOLY SUG Declares Sit-at-Home Protest Over Tuition Fee Hike
The Students’ Union Government (SUG) wishes to address the entire student community regarding the recent increase in the institution’s tuition fees. Since the revised fees appeared on the student portal, your Union has remained actively engaged with the Polytechnic Management through a series of consultations and meetings. Throughout these engagements, the Union has consistently maintained one position: the interests and welfare of MAPOLY students must remain the highest priority in every decision affecting their education.
MAPOLY SUG Declares Sit-at-Home Protest Over Tuition Fee Hike
Despite our sustained efforts and several rounds of dialogue, students’ concerns remain unresolved. The Students’ Union Government believes that the current economic realities have made it increasingly difficult for many students and their families to bear additional financial burdens. It is therefore our responsibility to ensure that these concerns are neither ignored nor treated with indifference.
As the constitutionally recognized voice of the students, we cannot remain silent or pretend that all is well. At the same time, we remain committed to responsible leadership, constructive engagement, and peaceful advocacy.
Consequently, after careful deliberation, the Students’ Union Government hereby directs all MAPOLY students to observe a peaceful Sit-at-Home on Monday, August 3, 2026, as a demonstration of our collective dissatisfaction with the recent tuition fee increase and a call for the appropriate authorities to reconsider the decision.
This action is a peaceful expression of our shared concerns. It is not an invitation to violence, property damage, intimidation, or any act capable of disrupting the peace and reputation of our institution.
Accordingly, all students are strongly advised to:
- Remain at home throughout Monday, August 3, 2026.
- Refrain from attending classes or participating in any academic activities scheduled for the day.
- Maintain peace, order, and discipline at all times.
- Avoid any confrontation with staff members, security personnel, or fellow students.
- Disregard rumors and rely only on information officially released by the Students’ Union Government.
The Students’ Union Government also respectfully appeals to all shuttle operators, commercial drivers, tricycle operators, and other transportation service providers within the Polytechnic community to support this peaceful cause by suspending operations both on and off campus for the duration of the Sit-at-Home. Your cooperation and solidarity will further demonstrate our collective commitment to the welfare and interests of MAPOLY students.
Dear Great Mapaites, history has consistently shown that the strength of any Students’ Union lies not only in its words but also in the unity, discipline, and solidarity of the students it represents. Your cooperation will send a clear and unmistakable message that the voices of MAPOLY students deserve to be heard and respected.
The Students’ Union Government wishes to assure all students that this directive does not mark the end of our engagement with the Polytechnic Management. Rather, it demonstrates that while dialogue continues, the collective concerns of MAPOLY students cannot be overlooked. The Union remains open to constructive engagement and sincerely hopes that this collective action will encourage a favorable reconsideration of the issues raised in the best interests of every Mapaite.
