The directive was contained in an internal memorandum issued by the Office of the Vice-Chancellor through the Information, Publications, Public Relations and Protocol Unit. The memo, dated 28 July 2026, was addressed to members of the university community.

According to the notice, all staff, students, unions and other users of the university halls are to suspend the use of these facilities for non-academic activities until further notice.

The university stated that the suspension takes immediate effect and will remain in force until the management announces its withdrawal. A further notice will be issued when normal use of the halls resumes.

The management expressed regret for any inconvenience the decision may cause and appealed to members of the university community for their understanding and cooperation while the suspension remains in place.

Staff, students and other stakeholders are therefore advised to comply fully with the directive and await further communication from the university authorities before organising or participating in any non-academic activities within the university halls.
