The Management of Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi, wishes to alert members of the public to a reported case of impersonation involving the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Timothy Terseer Alabar.

It has been reported that the WhatsApp telephone number 0904 736 1379 is being used by an individual or individuals allegedly impersonating the Vice-Chancellor and communicating with members of the public under false pretences.

Members of the public are therefore advised to exercise extreme caution and should not:

  • Engage in any financial transaction based on instructions received from the said number;
  • Transfer money or make payments to any account or individual claiming to be acting on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor;
  • Disclose sensitive or confidential information, including passwords, PINs, One-Time Passwords (OTPs), bank details or other personal information; or
  • Act on requests or instructions received through the number without first verifying the identity of the sender through the University’s official communication channels.

For the avoidance of doubt, any purported request for money, financial assistance, personal information or other sensitive transactions made through the said WhatsApp number should be treated with caution until independently verified.

Members of the public who have received suspicious messages, calls or requests from the number are encouraged to retain relevant evidence, including screenshots, chat records, telephone numbers, transaction details and any other related information, and report the matter through the appropriate institutional and law-enforcement channels for proper investigation.

The information contained in this notice is issued solely as a public safety and awareness warning and should not be construed as a final determination of guilt or wrongdoing against any individual. The appropriate authorities are expected to investigate the matter and take necessary action in accordance with the law.

The University urges everyone to remain vigilant and rely only on verified contact details and official communication channels when dealing with matters concerning the Vice-Chancellor or the University.
