BUK bans charging of Electric Motorcycles on Campus
The Management of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has expressed concern over the widespread charging of privately owned electric motorcycles and other electric vehicles using the University’s electricity supply across its campuses.
According to the University, the practice has contributed significantly to rising electricity costs, placing an unnecessary financial burden on the institution. As part of ongoing efforts to manage resources responsibly, Management said the continued use of University electricity to charge private electric vehicles is no longer sustainable.
Consequently, the University has, with immediate effect, banned the charging of privately owned electric motorcycles and other electric vehicles on all campuses and University premises.
All staff, students, commercial motorcycle operators, and other users of electric motorcycles are therefore advised to refrain from charging their vehicles using the University’s electricity supply.
Management warned that anyone found violating the directive will face appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the University’s rules and regulations.
To ensure compliance, Provosts, Deans, Directors, Heads of Department, and Heads of Unit have been directed to monitor activities within their respective areas and promptly report any violations to the appropriate authorities. In addition, a University Monitoring Team will conduct regular patrols across all campuses to enforce the directive.
The University urged all affected persons to comply with the directive and support its efforts to reduce energy costs and ensure the responsible use of institutional resources.
