Oyelakin Olumide Oluwapelumi, the Overall Best Graduating Student of Ekiti State University (EKSU), has achieved another major academic milestone after securing a scholarship to pursue a master’s degree in Canada.

Oyelakin graduated from the Department of Statistics in the Faculty of Science at EKSU in 2024 with First Class Honors, recording an impressive cumulative GPA of 4.89 out of 5.0.

His outstanding performance earned him the Best Graduating Student award in his department and the prestigious title of Overall Best Graduating Student across the university.

Following his undergraduate success, Oyelakin has been admitted to McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, where he will pursue a Master of Science in Biostatistics in the university’s Faculty of Medicine.

His graduate studies will be funded through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, which provides educational opportunities to academically outstanding young Africans while supporting their development as future leaders and contributors to society.

Oyelakin announced the achievement in a post on X on September 9, 2026, reflecting on his journey from graduating at the top of his university class to earning an international scholarship.

In his message, he expressed gratitude to God for helping him overcome academic challenges, difficult examinations, self-doubt, and other obstacles he encountered throughout his undergraduate studies.

The achievement has since attracted widespread attention on social media, with Nigerians celebrating his exceptional academic performance and his opportunity to continue his education at one of Canada’s leading universities.
