Paul University Suspends Priest Over Sex Misconduct
Paul University, Awka, has suspended one of its staff members, Venerable Cornelius Eze, following allegations of sexual misconduct involving a student.
According to the university, Eze, a Practical Biology Technologist in the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, has been placed on indefinite suspension pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.
The institution said the matter is being handled through its internal disciplinary process as well as by the relevant security agencies.
The university’s Public Relations Officer, Rev. Godisplan Onukwufor, said management became aware of the allegations on July 14, 2026, and immediately contacted law enforcement authorities to prevent unrest after the incident reportedly sparked tension among students.
A video circulating on social media allegedly showed the staff member leaving his office wearing only boxer shorts after the reported incident, drawing widespread public attention.
Paul University stressed that the suspension is a precautionary administrative measure and should not be interpreted as a determination of guilt. It added that any final decision will depend on the findings of both the university’s internal investigation and the inquiries being conducted by the appropriate authorities.
The institution reaffirmed its commitment to providing a safe learning environment, stating that it has zero tolerance for sexual harassment, abuse of office, immoral conduct, or any behavior that threatens the dignity, safety, and well-being of students and staff.
Management also disclosed that counseling and psychological support would be made available to students and others who may have been affected by the incident.
The university urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information or drawing premature conclusions while investigations remain ongoing.
It further assured parents, students, and the public that it remains committed to upholding its core values of integrity, discipline, and accountability, and promised to provide further updates as appropriate.
