Sanwo-Olu Appoints New LASU Vice Chancellor

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the appointment of Professor Badejo Ayodeji Olawunmi as the new Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU).

The appointment was announced on Wednesday, 9 September 2026, in a statement issued by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso.

Professor Badejo is an expert in Guidance and Counselling and has built a distinguished academic career in the field. She obtained both her Master of Education (M.Ed.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in Guidance and Counselling from the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

Born on 4 August 1962, Professor Badejo, whose maiden name is Faji, has spent several years in academia and is recognised for her expertise in Guidance and Counselling.

She will succeed Professor Ibijoke Olatunji-Bello, who is leaving office after completing her five-year tenure as Vice-Chancellor of the university.

Established in 1983, LASU is one of Lagos State’s major public universities, offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across a wide range of faculties and disciplines.

Professor Badejo’s appointment marks a new chapter in the administration of the university as she assumes responsibility for providing leadership and overseeing its academic and administrative affairs.
